Alex Hillman Podcasts Episode 1: Who Runs a Coworking space?

Adam Teterus from Indy Hall talked about what and how he does what he does with coworking.  He also shared some of the things he learned from running Indy Hall for 3 years.

Indy Hall

There are a lot of people that can work from anywhere.  Those people who have the flexibility to choose where they want to work can find themselves at Indy Hall.  Indy Hall is a community of people who want to be with like-minded people with diverse perspectives and ideas.

Team Members

Adam was not a founder of the space but a hired employee.  This may seem like a disadvantage when it comes to trying to cultivate a community because he did not have the same top-down view of the business.  However, over a short period of time he learned that joining Indy Hall as a member was actually a great advantage. Being so close to members of the community gave him a better perspective on how to best serve them.

In order to understand what people who run coworking spaces do, it is necessary to understand coworking as a concept itself which can make it difficult to explain.  However, the job was something Adam could not pass up. He saw it as an invitation to do two things. The first was an invitation to join a family, not just a business.  Secondly, it was an invitation for him to work on himself around people who personally care about making that happen in a supportive community. It is different from any other job but still holds great amount of responsibility.

Coworking provided a new medium for interacting with people.  The ability to work towards something that held real meaning to himself made Adam sure that he wanted to be a part of Indy Hall.
